Whole Masoor Dal - Instant Pot

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup Whole Masoor Dal
  • 2 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 1 Onion (~5oz) diced
  • 2 Roma Tomatoes
  • 1 inch Ginger diced
  • 5 cloves Garlic
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • ¼ tsp Asafetida Powder Hing
  • tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1 tsp Garam Masala (all spice)
  • ½ tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri Chili Powder
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 3 cups Water

Instructions
 

  • Soak the dal for at least 2 hours before cooking
  • Dice the onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and jalapeno
    Cut Veggies
  • Turn the instant pot to medium sauté. Once hot add the cooking oil. Add the cumin and Asafetida Powder. Stir for 30 seconds
  • Add the onions and sauté for 1 min
  • Add the ginger, garlic and jalapeno and sauté for 3 mins
  • Add the remaining spices. Stir for 30 seconds
  • Add the tomatoes. Sauté for 2 mins
  • Rinse the dal, add to the instant pot along with 3 cups water
  • Set the instant pot to 12 min, pressure cook setting
  • Let the pressure release naturally or instantly. Check the thickness of the dal. You can sauté if you like it a little thicker
  • Dal is ready to serve
